FAQ – Jewellery

At Sell Your Jewelry, we aim to provide a transparent, professional, and respectful selling experience. Below are the most common questions we receive from sellers in Singapore, along with clear explanations of how we handle the process.

Pricing & Offers

How much can I sell my diamond for?

The price we offer for your diamond depends on several key factors:

 • Certification – If your diamond has a GIA, IGI, HRD, or another reputable certificate, we can offer a higher price because it verifies the stone’s authenticity and quality. Certified stones also protect sellers from undervaluation by buyers with more expertise.
 • Modern vs. Old Cut – Older diamonds often require re-cutting before resale, which adds risk and cost. For example, we once re-cut a VVS2 diamond, but it revealed an I1 inclusion during the process, lowering its value. Because of this, we typically offer less for diamonds that need re-cutting.
 • Market Conditions – While diamond prices traditionally increased over time, the market has declined in recent years, especially in 2024.
 • Forget the Purchase Price – If your diamond was branded, you likely paid extra for marketing, operational costs, and branding, which do not translate into resale value.
 • Compare Offers – For high-value diamonds, we always recommend getting multiple offers, as different buyers use different pricing methods.

đź’ˇ For the highest value, a modern-cut, GIA-certified diamond is the best option.

How do you determine the price of my jewelry?

When evaluating your jewelry, we first assess its core materials:

 • Gold weight
 • Main diamond or gemstone
 • Small diamonds (melee stones), estimated weight & quality

We then check current gold and diamond prices and base our offer on this data.

If your jewelry is meant for melting, the price is based on its raw materials. However, if we see a beautiful, resellable piece, we may offer more.

đź’ˇ Want a better deal? We offer top value for trade-ins, where you exchange old jewelry for new pieces.

Why is my diamond/jewelry worth less than what I paid for it?

When you purchased your jewelry, the price included:
âś… Gold and diamonds
âś… Craftsmanship and labor
âś… Brand marketing and operational costs
âś… Retail markup and seller profits

When selling, only the raw materials matter—not these additional costs. This is why branded jewelry has a higher purchase price but does not always retain the same resale value.

Do you pay for small diamonds, melee diamonds, or side stones?

Yes! We buy melee diamonds and side stones, offering a price based on their estimated weight and quality.

Do branded jewelry (e.g., Cartier, Tiffany, Van Cleef) have better resale value?

Yes, some luxury brands hold value better, especially if:

 • You have the original paperwork & box
 • The jewelry is in excellent condition

For high-end brands, we often recommend consignment to help sellers maximize value.

Do you offer different prices for different gold karats (14K, 18K, 22K, etc.)?

Yes! The gold content directly affects value:

 • 14K (58.5% gold)
 • 18K (75% gold)
 • 22K (91.6% gold)

Higher gold purity = higher payout.

How do gold spot prices affect how much I get paid?

Gold prices fluctuate daily, and our offers are based on the latest spot price.

đź’ˇ If comparing multiple offers, make sure they are from the same day for accuracy.

Do you offer a higher price for platinum jewelry?

No. Platinum does not have higher resale value compared to gold.

Do you buy gold bars or gold coins?

Yes! We buy gold bars and coins, but we do not specialize in collector-value items.

Process & Evaluation

How does the selling process work?

We conduct a thorough evaluation of your jewelry in a private and secure setting, all in front of you. We then provide an on-the-spot offer based on our assessment.

Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?

We strongly recommend booking an appointment to ensure you receive our full attention without waiting.

How long does the evaluation take?
It depends on the number and type of items. Most evaluations take 15–60 minutes.
Do you test the gold/diamond on the spot?
Yes, all tests are conducted immediately in your presence.
Do I need to bring any documents, such as a receipt or a certificate?
If you have them, please bring any relevant documents—they can help with pricing.
What if my diamond/jewelry does not have a certificate?
We can still evaluate and purchase uncertified diamonds, but certified stones typically receive higher offers.
Do you offer cash payments or only bank transfers?
Depending on the amount, we offer cash, PayNow, or bank transfers.
Can I get a valuation first without selling?
Yes! All valuations are free and non-binding.

Authenticity & Testing

How do you check if my diamond is real?

We use multiple methods to confirm authenticity, but our diamond tester machine is the most reliable.

Do you use a diamond tester or an X-ray machine?

We use both:
✅ Diamond Tester – Confirms diamond authenticity
✅ X-ray Machine – Confirms gold purity

Can you confirm the gold purity on the spot?

Yes! In 99.9% of cases, we verify purity immediately.

How do I know my jewelry won’t get switched?

We conduct all evaluations in front of you, in a private office, ensuring full transparency and security.

Alternatives & Consignment

Can I trade my old jewelry for new pieces?

Yes! We offer extra value when you trade old jewelry for new.

Do you offer consignment instead of direct selling?

Yes, for selected high-value items.

Will I get more money if I consign my diamond/jewelry instead of selling outright?

Consignment often results in a higher payout, but it depends on your time and market demand. It is best suited for:
âś… Luxury brands (Cartier, Tiffany, etc.)
âś… Large diamond necklaces & rare pieces

If you are not in a rush, consignment is a great option to start with.

Can I sell broken jewelry or loose gemstones?

âś… Yes, we buy broken gold jewelry, loose diamonds, and some precious stones.
❌ Many colored gemstones have little to no resale value.

Legal & Security Concerns

Do I need to pay taxes when selling my jewelry?

No—private sellers do not need to pay taxes when selling jewelry.

Is it legal to sell second-hand gold jewelry in Singapore?

Yes, but only licensed dealers (like us) can legally buy second-hand jewelry.

How do I know this is a safe and trustworthy place to sell my jewelry?

We ensure full transparency through:
âś… A licensed business
âś… Excellent Google reviews like ours
âś… Private, secure evaluations
âś… Respectful & professional service

Do you require any personal details when selling jewelry?

Yes, we require a copy of your IC or passport, as per Singapore’s legal regulations.
